Welcome and thank you for downloading and trying Geocube. Geocube is modeled after Geosphere, once the best geocaching application for iOS. People who have used Geosphere will feel familiar with the way Geocube is setup, hopefully that will make the learning curve easier for them.

UI Design

There are five major parts of the UI of Geocube:


  • At the top left, there is the global menu button, this button is there always.
  • At the top right, there is the local menu button, this button only shows if there are actions for the view of the current tab.
  • At the top in the middle you have various tabs. Tapping a tab will bring the related view forwards.
  • Under the global menu button you have a close button. This button shows if the view has opened a view over the initial view for the tab. Instead of pressing the close button you can also swipe from left to right to close the view.
  • The rest of the screen is for the view for this tab.

First start

Download the configuration

When you started Geocube for the first time, you would have been asked to download the latest notices and the configuration. If you want to force a reload of the notices, go in the global menu to "Notices" and select "Download Notices" in the local menu. If you want to force a reload of the configuration, go in the global menu to "Settings", select the "Accounts" tab and select "Update config" in the local menu.

Configure your accounts

The "Accounts" tab has a number of listing services. To link your account to the listing service and be able to import GPX files and queries from that site, you will need to configure that service.

There are several statuses for the remove API on the listing service:

The account status icons

  • Remote API available, not configured: If the icon looks like a dead gray smiley, then Geocube is able to communicate with the API of the listing service. For example the listing service OpenCaching BeNeLux does support a remote API and Geocube has access to the API, as such after filling in the username you will be redirected to the website of OpenCaching BeNeLux for further authentication.
  • Remote API available, configured properly: If the icon looks like a happy yellow smiley, then Geocube has been able to obtain the authentication credentials for the remote API of this listing service.
  • Remote API available, communication failure: If the icon looks like a sad blue smiley, then Geocube has experienced a communication error towards the remote API of the listing service. Re-authentication to this listing service can resolve this issue.

Import queries

In the global menu "Queries" you can download the Pocket Queries of the Groundspeak website and the Queries of the Geocaching Australia section.

Note that the Pocket Queries from the Groundspeak website need to be executed and finished before they can be downloaded.

Upload files to Geocube

There are several ways to upload files to Geocube:

Via iTunes

  • Open iTunes.
  • Select the iPhone at the top left.
  • Select Apps on the left hand menu.
  • Scroll down to File Sharing.
  • Select Geocube from the left column.
  • Drag and drop the GPX file into the Geocube Documents window.
  • When you start Geocube, they will show up in the Files section.

Via AirDrop

  • Make sure you have Bluetooth enabled.
  • On the Mac open the AirDrop favourite in a Finder window.
  • Wait for the iPhone to show up.
  • Drag and drop the GPX file onto the iPhone.
  • Wait for the file to show up on the iPhone, where Geocube will accept it.
  • You can find the uploaded file in the Files section.

Via iCloud

  • In the Files section, select Import via iCloud from the local menu.
  • From your iCloud drive, select the file you want to download.
  • When downloaded the file will be available Files section.

Via Dropbox / Google Drive / Microsoft OneDrive etc

You can select these options via the iCloud interface.

Via email

  • Receive an email with the GPX or ZIP file as an attachment.
  • Open it in Geocube.
  • You can find the the attachment in the Files section.

Import GPX files

After the GPX files have been uploaded to Geocube, you can import them: In the global menu select "Files", select the GPX file and select "Import". You will be asked for a group you wan to import the waypoints into. Then you will be asked for an account you want to associate the imported waypoints to. And then the fun begins!

Import GPX file

  • At the top you will see how much of the GPX file has been imported already.
  • Next comes the total number of waypoints imported and the number of new waypoints seen.
  • Next comes the total number of trackables imported and the number of new trackables seen.
  • Next comes the total number of logs imported and the number of new logs seen.
  • Next comes the total number of images seen, the number of images imported and the number of images pending import.

For images, by default it will only import the images seen in the waypoint description and not the ones seen in the logs.

At the bottom are ten second averages for the number of waypoints imported, logs imported, trackables imported, images imported and images downloaded.

And now...

Once one or more files are imported, you can go to the global menu "Waypoints" section and the fun begins!
